The eight-year-old has been a great servant to his connections, winning 14 of his 39 career starts, and ran a fine race to chase home Astrophysical Jet in a Group Three at the Curragh last month.

"He ran well to finish second to a really progressive three-year-old. He's back in Listed company and he should be there with every chance. I think he'll win if he runs as well as he did last time," said the jockey.

"He's had a lighter campaign than usual and he's in great form. He's very consistent and the soft ground wouldn't bother me too much as he's won on it before and he goes on anything really. All he does is want to win, so I'm looking forward to it."

Tim Etherington's Burning Thread tops the weights after winning the Listed Scurry Stakes at Sandown on his latest appearance back in June, but the trainer is under no illusions about his task against seasoned campaigners.

He said: "He's got a 3lb penalty, which is pretty tough against some of these older sprinters. I'm very happy with him and I feel he's in great form, so if he runs well against these horse then that will set him up nicely for next year.

Michael Bell's Wigmore Hall arrives on the back of a superb second in the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park last month and the trainer reports his charge to have taken those exertions in his stride.

"It wasn't my intention to run him again so quickly but he's come back from America jumping and squealing. It will be interesting to see how he gets on on this slower ground, for future reference," said Bell.

"Bearing in mind he's a gelding and we're not trying to build up a stallion profile for him, this looks a good opportunity for him. It fits in nicely with a view to a potential run in the Champion Stakes as well.

"We're going to run him because we really want to see how he handles the ground. It will either close a few doors in the future or keep a few doors open, so it makes sense to run him."

Saeed bin Suroor's Al Zir has been off the track since finishing a creditable sixth in the Derby at Epsom in June.

Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "It looks a very good race and he has been off since the Derby. While we hope he'll run a nice race, he'll definitely improve for it. It's a good starting point for him and 10 furlongs is his trip.

The WBA champion has confirmed that he will make a voluntary defence of his belt at the MEN Arena, Manchester, on Saturday, November 13.

It will mean renewing rivalries with one-time friend Harrison, who has spent the last six months calling the Hayemaker out.

Harrison is number 13 in the WBA's rankings but has jumped the queue on the back of his sensational European title win, in which he knocked Michael Sprott out in the final round.

Even before that, the 2000 Olympic gold medallist has been chasing a domestic showdown with Haye, the pair having fallen out several years ago after a row over undercards.

Harrison says he let Haye fight on one of his, only to see the compliment go unreturned - and has let the world know exactly what he thinks.
